Mid February's Miami International Boat Show proved to be another impressive eventand was an opportunity for buyers to evaluate, first hand, what the market has to offer. Florida's Miami show attracts more than 3,000 boats and 2,000 exhibitors from acrossthe globe, making it a firm fixture on the calendar of everyone who's anyone in thesuperyacht world. This year, the country's largest yacht showdelivered a fantastic range of superyachts andmegayachts, an extensive gallery of artworks byfamous international and domestic artists, anda fine showcase of upmarket residentialproperties from around the world. There was also an exciting social programmepacked with first-class entertainment and net-working opportunities. For the first time since the show's inception,Camper & Nicholsons hosted a stand. Situatedon the walkway in front of Visun Royal YachtClub, our expert brokers were on hand duringthe four days of the show and were kept busyassisting with a large number ofenquiries fromexisting and potential clients. The World Superyacht Awards 2012 announcedthe names of its finalists at the beginning of theyear, and the results confirmed that Camper &Nicholsons has a number of fantastic yachts inthe running to receive a highly regardedNeptune trophy. One hopeful is one of 2011'smost eagerly awaited launches - the 60m(196'1) Darlings Danama. Built in collaborationwith Camper & Nicholsons and available tocharter, she is in the running to be crownedbest displacement motoryacht of 500GT to1,299GT. The winners will be revealed at the seventhannual awards ceremony on 5 May at the spec-tacular Çiragan Palace Kempinski hotel in thebeautiful Turkish city of Istanbul. As many yacht owners are already aware,in December 2011 the Italian Governmentapproved a new yachting tax, which willcome into effect from 1 May, 2012.Following the first version of the law, a newamendment was approved by the ItalianSenate on 2 March 2012. The main changes are that this tax will onlybe applied to Italian-owned yachts, andnot to foreign-owned yachts, and that itwill be chargeable on an annual rate. Ifthe amendment is also approved by thelower Chamber, only Italian owners(independent of the yacht's flag) will besubject to payment of the tax.
